Why waiting until Spring can cost more: spotting frame, seal and glass issues during Winter

Because winter is very good at exposing the things your windows would rather hide

Many homeowners assume spring is the start of “window season”. The daffodils appear, the jackets get lighter and suddenly everyone remembers their house has glass on it. But waiting until spring to get your windows cleaned means you’re missing out on the season when problems are easiest to spot, and cheapest to fix.

Winter is the great revealer. Cold temperatures, damp air and driving rain show up issues that stay hidden during the warmer months. If there’s a draught sneaking through a tired seal, you’ll feel it. If moisture is gathering in the corner of a frame, you’ll see it. If mould has started forming on a sill, you’ll smell it. And once you notice one little problem, chances are there are a few more waiting quietly nearby.

Dirty windows make these issues harder to spot. Dust, salt streaks and water marks mask cracks in seals and disguise developing patches of mould. Give that glass a good Willoughby’s clean, however, and the whole picture becomes much clearer. It’s like turning the lights on in a room you didn’t realise was dim.

Winter cleaning also helps prevent damage in the first place. When grime sits on frames and seals, it traps moisture. That moisture freezes, expands and encourages rot on wooden frames or brittleness on uPVC ones. Clean surfaces dry properly, meaning fewer surprises waiting for you come March.

Spotting problems early saves money. A tiny crack in a seal can be fixed easily. Leave it until spring and you may find you’re dealing with damp walls, mouldy corners or double glazing that’s lost its insulating power. Suddenly, the repair bill isn’t looking quite so friendly.

And of course, winter cleaning means you won’t start spring staring through three months of streaks, smudges and rain residue. You begin the sunnier season already ahead of the game.

So if you’ve been holding off until the daffodils appear, don’t. Winter is the best time to catch issues, protect your frames and give your home the care it needs. And Willoughby’s Windows will be there with a smile, a squeegee and purified water at the ready.
